About NoCGNAT.ca
NoCGNAT.ca is an independent community project. It answers one question for people in Canada who run a home server, VPN, security cameras, a game server or remote access: will my internet provider let me do this?
Why it exists
The answer is usually scattered across support pages, terms of service, forum threads and Reddit posts, and it changes over time. More providers are moving residential customers behind carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), which quietly breaks port forwarding. This site collects what public sources say, in one table, with a link to every source.
Independence
- The project is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by any internet service provider.
- No provider can pay to change, remove or improve its entry.
- If the site carries sponsors or affiliate links in the future, they will be clearly labelled and kept separate from the data. They will never change a value in the table.
- Data is accepted only with a source anyone can check, no matter who submits it.
How values are sourced
- Every value comes from a public source: an ISP support page or terms, an ISP forum, posts by ISP staff, or reports from customers. The source type and the date we checked it are shown next to each value.
- Official pages are preferred. Customer reports are labelled as such, because results can differ by area, plan and equipment.
- Values marked unverified are waiting to be confirmed against the source.
- A blank means unknown. It does not mean "no".
Corrections and new readings
Use the submission form. Every submission is stored as pending and reviewed by a person before anything changes on the site. A link to a source helps a lot.
Privacy
- Newsletter: we store your email address only to send updates about ISP self-hosting rules. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Submissions: we store what you submit. Your email is optional and is used only to follow up on your submission.
- To limit spam we keep a one-way hash of your IP address, not the address itself.
- The self-host check and the CGNAT guide show you your public IP; it is not stored. The router WAN IP you type into the check is compared in your browser and never sent to us. To detect IPv6, your browser may also contact Cloudflare's public resolver address (2606:4700:4700::1111).
- Port tests run only when you tick the consent box, only against the address your request comes from, and only on the ports you choose. For rate limits we log a one-way hash of your IP, the address type and the number of ports, and delete it after 2 days.
- Shared check results are optional. They contain ISP, network name and number, province, CGNAT and IPv6 yes/no, port results and the date, plus a one-way hash of your IP. They are stored as pending and reviewed by a person before anything is used.
